Nahitra is an independent guide to artisan cheese, written for the people who love it and the people who make it. Soon it will also be a marketplace where you can buy cheese directly from those makers.
Why we exist
Small creameries make some of the best cheese in the country, yet most of it never travels far from the farm. Cheesemakers are busy making cheese. Few have time to tell their story, or to build an online store for a product that has to stay cold. Cheese lovers, meanwhile, rarely know who made the wheel on their board, or where to find more of it.
Nahitra exists to close that gap. We tell makers’ stories, help people buy and enjoy cheese with confidence, and share what we learn about the business and technology of making it.
Our story
Nahitra started in 2024 as a blog about dairy, covering yogurt and cheese. The more we wrote, the clearer it became that the best stories belonged to small, independent cheesemakers. So we narrowed our focus to artisan cheese, and we’re now building a marketplace that connects those makers directly with the people who want their cheese.
Our team’s experience includes work inside a dairy company, so we know both the craft and the business side of cheese.
We name our sources. Award results come from official winner lists such as the American Cheese Society’s, and we link to the reporting we rely on.
If we get something wrong, we correct it. Tell us through our contact page.
The marketplace
We’re building the Nahitra marketplace so small creameries can sell directly to cheese lovers, starting in the United States, where we’re based. Our first sellers join as founding sellers, with 0% commission for their first 3 months after launch, 4% through month 12, and a lower founding rate locked in for life, with no monthly fee.
